TLX-9 High Frequency PCB

 

Introduction
Welcome back to our channel. My name is Ivy, the regional sales manager for Bicheng PCB. Today, we're going to discuss the TLX-9 high frequency PCB, a form of woven glass reinforced PTFE PCB.

TLX-9 uses combinations of 1080 or 106 style fiberglass and exhibits excellent dimensional and electrical performance. In addition, they are available in a wide range of thicknesses, making them ideal for double-sided or multilayer applications.

TLX-9 Typical Properties
TLX-9 possesses a low dielectric constant of 2.5 at 10 GHz, as well as a low dissipation factor of 0.0019 at the same frequency. These characteristics make it an excellent choice for high-frequency applications where signal integrity is paramount.

In addition to its impressive electrical properties, TLX-9 also has a moisture absorption rate of less than 0.02%, ensuring stability and reliability in damp environments.

It also has a dielectric breakdown voltage of over 60 kV, making it suitable for use in high-voltage applications.

TLX-9's volume resistivity and surface resistivity both exceed 10^7 Mohm/cm, ensuring excellent electrical insulation properties.

Its arc resistance is also over 180 seconds, indicating exceptional resistance to electrical arcing.

When it comes to mechanical strength, TLX-9 does not disappoint. It has a flexural strength of over 23,000 lbs./in. lengthwise and over 19,000 lbs./in. crosswise, making it a highly durable material.

It also has a peel strength of 12 lbs./linear in. for 1 oz. copper.

However, TLX-9's thermal conductivity is only 0.19 W/m/K.

It has a CTE of 9 ppm/°C in X-direction and 12 ppm/°C in Y-direction, while 130-145 ppm/°C in Z-direction.

Finally, TLX-9 has a UL-94 flammability rating of V-0, indicating that it is highly resistant to ignition and will self-extinguish quickly if it does catch fire.

Outgassing Properties
TLX-9 has a long space heritage and is able to experience severe environments such as radiation resistance in space. This outgassing test result shows that total mass loss (TML) of TLX-9 is 0.02%. Collected volatile condensable materials (CVCM) is 0.01%, while the amount of water vapor regained (WVR) is zero. As a result of these extremely low levels, the results far exceed the normal needed value.

PCB Capability (TLX-9)
For TLX-9 PCBs, it’s available with single-sided boards, double-sided boards, multi-layer boards and hybrid types.

TLX-9 PCBs have wide thickness. The conventional thicknesses include those of 10 mils, 20 mils, 31 mils, and 60 mils, among others. It’s as thin as 2 mils and as thick as 250 mils for our designers.

Finished copper on track lines can be 1oz and 2oz.

The maximum PCB size on TLX-9 is 400mm by 500mm, it can be a single board in the sheet and also can be different designs in this panel.

Solder mask of green, black, blue, red and yellow etc is available in house.

For pads surface finishes, the options include immersion gold, HASL, immersion silver, immersion tin, bare copper, OSP, pure gold and ENEPIG etc.

A Piece of TLX-9 PCB
On the screen is a type of 0.8mm TLX-9 PCB with hot air soldering level for the application of passive components.

We can also find its usage in radar systems, mobile communications, microwave test equipment, and microwave transmission devices etc.

 
 
 

Conclusion
The TLX product lines are the workhorse in the RF microwave substrates industry because the fiberglass provides mechanical support whenever the substrates encounter harsh environments, such as resistance to creep for PCBs fastened to housings that experience high vibration levels during space launch; exposure to high temperatures for engine modules; radiation protection in space; resistance to harsh marine environments for warship antennas; and resistance to a broad temperature range while in flight and so on.
